# Windows Clipboard History vs BuildNotch for Code Snippets

Published September 30, 2026. By BuildNotch.

Windows + V is enough for many occasional snippets. BuildNotch is a Windows notch that detects code-like clipboard text and puts it beside your other work tools. It is not a permanent snippet library.

## What changes?

| Criterion | Windows clipboard history | BuildNotch |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Access | Windows + V | Top-of-screen notch, Clipboard view |
| Items | Text, HTML, bitmap; 4 MB per item | Text, links, code-like text, images, with filters |
| Capacity | 25 entries | 40 most recent items in the current app session |
| After restart | Pinned Windows items remain | BuildNotch session history ends when the app closes |
| Controls | Pin, delete, clear, optional sync | Copy again or remove from BuildNotch history; no pin or sync |

BuildNotch's Code filter helps when recent copies mix snippets with links and images. Windows pinning is better for a few snippets that need to survive a restart. For a lasting collection, use a dedicated snippet store.

Sensitive tokens and passwords can be captured by either history. BuildNotch's Remove action does not clear the Windows clipboard. Check Windows' optional sync setting before copying confidential text.
